3 Signs Your Cabin Filter Needs To Be Changed?

Spring is officially here! The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and allergens are in the air. Your cabin air filter is directly responsible for protecting you and your passengers against airborne contaminants. Your cabin air filter is located behind your glove box and filters our harmful particles, including pollen and dust, from entering your vehicle.

Over time, your cabin air filters will become clogged with dirt and other grime, and your filter will start to fail. A failing cabin air filter means lower quality air. Your air conditioning system might require more power to operate. It is common to drive around with a bad cabin air filter. However, the team at Jeff’s Automotive is here to help. If you notice any of these three signs, your cabin air filter most likely needs to be replaced:

  1. Poor airflow: If you are noticing poor airflow at the vents, your cabin air filter most likely needs to be changed. Your cabin should be able to get enough air from your air conditioning system, but when it is clogged with dirt and grime, your air conditioning system is working in overdrive just to get the same amount of airflow out.

  2. Strange smell from the vents: When there is a build-up of dirt and grime on the filter, it often results in mold and bacteria, which in turn has an unusual and noticeable odor. This smell could be dusty or moldy, and you will notice the smell more when you turn on the air conditioning system.

  3. Louder fan noise: If you hear increased fan noise, larger particles are likely entering your cabin air filter. When you turn on your air conditioning system, you will almost immediately hear a louder noise, and you will feel a restricted flow of air.

Your cabin air filter is one of your first defenses against Mother Nature. If you are experiencing any of the signs mentioned above, don’t hesitate to contact our team.
